Disney To No Longer Give Special Treatment To Disabled Guest? Amusement Park Says That Some Families Intentionally Hire Disabled Tour Guides To Skip The Long Lines!

Disney Parks has confirmed that it would be cancelling its Guest Assistance Card program starting October 9 because of abusive people. As an alternative, the theme park will have a new program which is the Disabled Assistance System.

According to reports, there are several well-off families who choose to pay disabled guides as much as $130 an hour to pretend as a family member. Since they have a disabled "relative" with them, the family members will then be allowed to enter a certain attraction without having to queue.

"My daughter waited one minute to get on 'It's a Small World' -- the other kids had to wait 2.5 hours. You can't go to Disney without a tour concierge. This is how the 1 percent does Disney," proudly claims a mother to the New York Post.

Disney's former program permits guests with disabled member to bring up to six friends or family members to the special convenience entrance.  This means that they will not have to fall in line for hours since they will be given special attention.

The amusement park modified its rules to prevent such unfair schemes. A new disability card will now be issued which will give only specific times to the holders to enter or watch an attraction.

"We have an unwavering commitment to making our parks accessible to all guests. Given the increasing volume of requests we receive for special access to our attractions, we are changing our process to create a more consistent experience for all our guests while providing accommodations for guests with disabilities. We engaged disability groups, such as Autism Speaks, to develop this new process, which is in line with the rest of our industry," says Disney Parks.

However, the change in policy has faced several criticisms especially for those with disabled family members. The petitioners claim that their family members do not have the capacity to endure long waits because of the cognitive, sensory, social, physical, and emotional challenges that they are facing. For them, it will be impossible to enjoy the parks if the Guest Assistance Pass will be completely altered.
