Jared Leto Had To Lose Weight And Shave Hair To Play The Role Of Transsexual Woman: ‘I Did It Because I Fell In Love. I Fell In Love With The Role,’ Says Actor

Jared Leto is one of Tinseltown's actors who are willing to undergo dramatic transformations for the sake of a film's beauty. Throughout the acting career of the 41-year-old actor, he has proven his versatility.

In 'Requiem for a Dream', he was asked to lose 25 pounds to portray the role of a drug addict. He also took a risk by gaining 60 pounds in 2007 to portray the role of John Lennon's killer in 'Chapter 27'. Leto will again have another transformation as he takes the role of a transsexual woman with AIDS named Rayon in the new film 'Dallas Buyer Club'.

For the film, he was again asked to lose 30 pounds, nearly one-third of his body weight. He likewise shaved his eyebrows and waxed his legs.  

"I did it because I fell in love. I fell in love with the role. It was a necessity. I was playing someone who was addicted to drugs and also dying of AIDS," explained Leto.

Apart from him, Matthew McConaughey also needed to undergo dramatic transformation. McConaughey plays the role of a homophobic electrician who eventually pairs with Rayon in the distribution of anti-viral medications.

Leto currently has no other films in the pipeline for he is likewise occupied with his musical commitments with his rock band 30 Second to Mars where he is the lead singer.

The actor likewise adds that he did not expect his band to become famous:  "It wasn't supposed to be successful, you know? But lo and behold, it did become that."
