Playstation Wins Top Spot As Sony Beats Xbox For The First Time In Three Years -- Playstation 4 Ready To Battle

PlayStation wins top spot after taking over the favored Xbox franchise as the top selling console in the United States. Sony finally hammered the Microsoft gaming console's 32-month reign as the best console September of this year. It was January 2011 when Xbox ousted Nintendo DS for the number one spot.

Research company NPD Group said that this is the first time outsold the Sony franchise since January 2009. It has been reported that the reason for the company's success is because of the newly released game, Grand Theft Auto V.

Sony packaged the game GTA V with their video game console equipped with 500GB worth of storage for only $270. Microsoft, on the other hand bundled the video game with their console with only 250GB of storage for $420.

According to Gameindustry International, the game smashed records on its first day instantly becoming the best-selling video game just 24-hours prior its release. It garnered an astonishing $1bllion of sales just in three days time.

Rockstar Games, the creator of the record breaking game said, "The launch of Grand Theft Auto V this September was a much needed shot in the arm for the industry."

NPD pointed out that the success of PlayStation was indeed because of the bundle they made. Although reporters and analysts said that this may be a strategy because the success will only last for a month as newer generation of consoles are set for release one month after.

Critics believed that this may be a momentum starter for Sony to head start and "string together a nice little streak of its own" for the new gaming console wars.

The new generation PlayStation 4 is set to hit shelves on November 15 followed by Microsoft's newest release, the Xbox One, the week after.
