Apple Recalls MacBook Air – Flash Drive Fails For Mac Users

Apple recalls MacBook Air made from June 2012 to June 2013 as a result of failing flash drives. The company, few days before their much anticipated event on the 22nd, asked for the return of 64GB and 128GB laptops that may have failed due to possible malfunction in its solid state drives.

Apple stated an upgrade for the flash drive firmware to solve the problem via the Flash Storage Drive Replacement Program. The big time tech company said that if your Mac falls on the "Mid 2012" then you may have to install the new update, MacBook Air Flash Storage Firmware Update 1.1., that Apple provided.

Apple announced on their website last week that there have been issues with the previous generation models. "Apple has discovered that a small percentage of flash storage drives in these MacBook Air models have an issue that may result in data loss. This update tests your drive and, in the majority of cases, installs new firmware to resolve the issue. If your drive cannot be updated, Apple will replace it, free of charge."

They also stated precautions for users to not further worsen the problem. "If your drive is affected, we strongly recommend that you do not install any operating system updates or new applications. We also recommend backing up your data on a regular basis until you receive a replacement drive."

Apple recently released a 2013 MacBook Air with an 11-inch and 13-inch models and a higher gigabyte capacity. The physical appearance of the newer generation might look exactly the same but the inside of the laptop were upgraded to outperform the older generation computer. It is equipped with a faster CPU and a faster overall performance.
