Windows 8 Apps Will Run On Xbox One, Dell Claims; Integration Not Confirmed By Microsoft Yet

Windows 8 apps will run on Xbox One, according to a blurb on Dell's online store. But Microsoft has yet to confirm if Windows 8 apps will run on Xbox One, and whether or not the integration between Windows 8 apps and the next generation Xbox One will happen ahead of its release date.

The blurb on Dell's website claims that Windows 8 apps will be capable of being "run on and synced" to the Xbox One. "Now your phone, desktop, tablet and TV can all give you a unified web and entertainment experience," the website says.

Yet Engadget reports that Microsoft has said previously that the Windows 8 apps won't be cross-compatible with the Xbox One without extra tweaking.

More specifically, Microsoft has said that the Xbox One will contain a Windows 8 partition and have said the partition could be used for game-based apps, according to Xbox 360: The Official Xbox Magazine.

However, the magazine notes that Microsoft has not gone on record to say whether all apps, regardless of whether or not they were designed for the new Xbox console, would also work with the system.

According to NDTV Gadgets, during the BUILD 2013 keynote, a demo presentation showcased the Khan Academy app running on an Xbox One console. Perhaps this was the company hinting that the Windows 8 app may be able to run on the Xbox One.

The Xbox One has a release date of November 22 in 13 countries including Australia, Austria, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Mexico, Spain, the United Kingdom, the United States and New Zealand, NDTV Gadgets reports.

The Xbox One's launch has been delayed in some markets until 2014, due to the extra time it takes to customize user interface and translate software to different languages, the website reports.

These markets include Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Netherlands, Norway, Russia, Sweden, and Switzerland.

The Xbox One will enter the Asian markets in 2014, available in select markets including Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, South Korea and India.
