Mom Faces $500 Charge For Breast Feeding In Jury Duty [VIDEO] 'Not Fair' And 'Very Stressful' To Mother Whose Main Responsibility Is To Protect Child

Should a woman be allowed to avoid Jury Duty while she is breast feeding? A Missouri woman is facing a $500 fine for bring her child into the court for breastfeeding her son while put on the jury.

Laura Trickle is a stay at home mom that got a jury duty notice in the mail and was unaware of what measures she was allowed to take when she knew she had to stay with her son that was breast feeding. Once she brought her baby into the court she was told she could do one of two thing; breast feed during breaks or have a nannny watch the child. But Trickle, a hands on mom, had not had the resouces to hire a babysitter to watch the child So she just showed up to court again with the infant in tow. 

She was then faced with comtempt with the court and is facing a $500 fine. Is this how our society reacts to a mother doing the most basic biological function?

"It has been really scary. It has been very stressful for our family," she said. The woman has no clue about her legal rights and her main focus in life is to protect her children. Is that so wrong?

A state senator from St. Joseph, Mo., is working on a bill that would excuse breastfeeding mothers from jury duty. There are similar laws in 12 states. Other states have laws to exempt breastfeeding mothers from jury duty. Legislation is on the table to add such an exemption in Missouri.

"It is not right. It is not fair for us. We're just trying to do what is best for our children, and we shouldn't be penalized and fined for it," Trickle said.

Trickle has a court date scheduled for Thursday.

What do you think about this fine? I think that not everyone is legally informed and therer needs to be exceptions for women protecting their children without other means to get out of patriotoc duties.
