OS X Mavericks Release Date: Apple Offering Latest Software Update Free For Models As Old As 2007, Available For Download Today

OS X Mavericks release date: The new OS by Apple is now available and is being offered free by the tech giant. All models, from iMacs and Macs as old as 2007 can avail of the date and it will be available today.

The OS X Mavericks was announced last June at the company’s WWDC and the Golden Master edition for developers of the OS has already been released. The Golden Master signifies that the OS is now being prepared for a consumer release.

Aside from its numerous new features, one of the key updates for the OS X Mavericks is the iBooks. Though the application has been a mainstay in the iOS versions, it was never available for the desktop. The OS X 10.9 Mavericks will now feature a standalone iBooks application. According to the Telegraph, iBooks will sync with customers’ literary purchases through the iTunes Book Store and across their Apple devices through iCloud.

Users of the app will be able to highlight and make notes on the texts, or cut and paste text from an iBook into a document for quotation and annotation. All note in the new desktop Mac application are synchronized across devices so students could make notes as they read a book on their iPad and switch to a Mac desktop to write their essay.

Apple Maps is another significant update in the new software. Apple Maps on the OS X Mavericks will allow the user to plan out a journey on their Mac and then send the direction through to their iPad or iPhone while running iOS 7 for navigation on the go.

The new Mac apps let you look up locations, see maps in 2D or 3D, view vector map illustrations or overhead photographic views and see live traffic and Yelp information, noted the Telegraph. The new OS X 10.9 Mavericks Maps app also mean developers can embed maps into their Mac applications, allowing it to be more dynamic.

Aside from both the iBooks and Maps, other updates in the new OS X Mavericks include AirPlay Display, Finder tabs, tags and the iCloud Keychain. The latter update allows you to store passwords, credit-card numbers, and personal contact information and sync them between devices running Mavericks or iOS 7.
