Samsung Galaxy S2 Android Update: Android-Powered Handset Permanently Stuck At 4.1, Officially Reaches End Of Life With No Further Updates

Samsung Galaxy S2 is not getting an Android 4.2 update and with an official word from a carrier, the famous handset has now reached end of life. The device received Android. 4.1 Jelly Bean earlier this year but if the comments of Australian carrier Telstra is any indication, that maybe the last official update for S2.

In a report by Gotta Be Mobile, it noted that Telstra said that there are no more updates planned for the Samsung Galaxy S2 4G, a confirmation in earlier report that Samsung Galaxy S2 will not be getting the Android 4.2 Jelly Bean update.

According to Gotta Be Mobile, while Telstra’s decision on the Galaxy S2 4G applies to its Australian users, it will very likely apply to the rest of the world as well. The blog suggest that Samsung Galaxy S2 users interested in getting further updates from the Android 4.1 should start seeking help from the development community.

In an earlier report last July, the International Business Times reported that Samsung Galaxy S2 is one of many Galaxy devices included in an end of life cycle with Android 4.2.2. The website cites a source from Samsung sharing the tip.

The Samsung Galaxy S2’s successor, the Samsung Galaxy S2 Plus has just received this year the Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean and reports have also indicated that it maybe the last for the device. The Samsung Galaxy S3 and Samsung Galaxy S4 are both expected to get the Android 4.3 update. The rollout of Android 4.3 update for S4 has already began.

Samsung unveiled the S2 last February 2011 at the Mobile World Congress and is one of the slimmest smartphone of the time. It has a 1.2GHz dual-core “Exynos” system on a chip (SoC) processor, 1 GB of RAM, a 10.8 cm (4.3 in) WVGA Super AMOLED Plus screen display and an 8-megapixel camera with flash and 1080p full high definition recording.
