Newcastle United will face off against rival Sunderland on Saturday, placing two of the English Premier League's closely followed teams against each other.

Newcastle United, coming out of a 2-1 win over Cardiff City, is expected to be the favorite in the match.

Newcastle United Manager Alan Pardew said his team should secure a derby day win over Sunderland, according to the Daily Star.

"This group of players have had question marks hanging over them at times, particularly after that derby defeat last year," he said.

"I've never doubted the spirit in the group but sometimes you need a game like Liverpool when you are reduced to ten men for it to come to the fore.

Sunderland, coming out of a 2-1 loss to Manchester United, is slated as the underdog in the match but is rumored to give Newcastle United a good game.

Sunderland Manager Gus Poyet said former boss Paolo Di Canio's "unbalanced" transfer strategy is inefficient.

"Individually, I have no doubt at all - the players at this football club are good enough,' the former Brighton boss told the BBC.

"But there just has not been balance to the team. It might mean I drop players who are the best or the favourites
