Dave Herman Classic Rock DJ from WNEW-FM Busted in Child Sex Sting; Won’t Fight Extradition to New Jersey

Dave Herman, who was a long-time pioneering rock-’n’-roll DJ on WNEW-FM on New York radio, was charged in an alleged scheme involving attempted sex with a 7-year-old girl. DJ Dave Herman, 77, will not fight extradition to New Jersey to face charges. He could face up to life in prison.

Dave Herman did not enter a plea at court in the U.S. Virgin Islands yesterday. Dave Herman face charges in New Jersey after the sex sting arrest that was operated out of Bergen County.

Judge George W. Cannon, a federal judge in St. Croix, ordered Dave Herman to face charges that he tried to arrange sexual encounters with a fictitious seven-year-old girl. On Friday the U.S. Magistrate judge signed an order directing a U.S. marshal to transport Herman to New Jersey. According to court records, Herman is being held without bail in St. Croix.

Dave Herman was charged with attempted interstate transportation of a minor with intent to engage in sexual activity. Herman is being represented by a federal public defender.

A lawyer and two supporters for Dave Herman declined comment after the hearing.

Magistrate Judge George Cannon ordered that Dave Herman be returned to New Jersey, but there is no word on when he will be transferred. According to Assistant Federal Public Defender Gabriel Villegas, Dave Herman has health and medical issues. He will be treated in the United States’ mainland.

Dave Herman lives in Airmont, NY, and St. Croix.

Dave Herman was charged with exchanging online messages with an undercover agent who posing as a 36-year-old woman with a young daughter as part of a sex-traffic sting. According to prosecutors, Dave Herman attempted to arrange sexual encounters in New York and Bergen County, N.J. The messages continued until Herman offered to fly them to St. Croix so he could have sex with the daughter.

Rebekah Carmichael, a spokeswoman for U.S. Attorney for New Jersey Paul J. Fishman said Dave Herman is expected to be transferred to Puerto Rico before being brought back to New Jersey in “a couple of weeks.”

Dave Herman allegedly wrote “Age six is the perfect time to start being loved that way. I find girls that age incredibly sexy, soft, and their innocence is also a huge turn on for me.”

Dave Herman's "Rock and Roll Morning Show" ran on WNEW-FM for 26 years. It was cancelled in 1998.
