Mariah Carey Hates Being An American Idol Judge; ‘It Was Like Going To Work Every Day In Hell With Satan,’ Says Pop Singer

Her job as an American Idol judge might appear glamorous but in reality the singer abhors having the coveted position. In a recent radio interview with HOT 97, Carey recalled how her judging stint for the show's twelfth season could be compared to working in hell with an evil persona.

"Honestly, I hated it. I thought it was going to be a three-person panel. They gave me a nice dangling monetary moment, and I was just like, 'Okay. Randy Jackson will be there; I've known him forever. He used to play bass for me. Like, this isn't a big deal. This will be nothing.' But it wasn't that. It was like going to work every day in hell with Satan."

The 'Through the Rain' singer was apparently referring to one of her co-judges Nicki Minaj whom she had a feud with. To downplay her seemingly blunt remark, she merely added that her fights with Minaj weren't that disturbing.

She likewise added that the only reason why she enjoyed American Idol was its array of contestants. She emphasized that apart from being exceptional singers, some of the contestants were kindhearted off-screen. She expressed her displeasure for judges who wouldn't let deserving contestants pass the auditions because of political reasons.

For American Idol Season 13, none of the three previous judges will be returning to do the job of screening the aspiring singers. According to a report by Huffington Post, the three judges for the next season will be Keith Urban, Jennifer Lopez, and Harry Connick. Randy Jackson, on the other hand will remain as a mentor.
