Jake Gyllenhaal ‘Flipped Out’: Received 'Numerous' Stitches At Hospital For Punching Mirror On Movie Set After Working 18 Hours

Jake Gyllenhaal was rushed to the hospital and received stitches after punching a mirror on the set of his new movie "Nightcrawler" yesterday morning in Los Angeles. Jake Gyllenhaal reportedly "flipped out" while in character on the movie set and injured himself.

"Jake flipped out," a "Nightcrawler" source told People magazine. "His character was looking into a mirror during the scene and punched the mirror in anger and broke it, cutting himself so bad he had to be taken to a hospital."

Gyllenhaal, 32, was rushed to the hospital and received stitches in the emergency room, People magazine reports.

A source told the publication that the reason for the incident was due to an intense moment in character during a dramatic scene after an 18-hour day on the movie set.

"The scene was emotionally charged and his character was talking into a mirror and he got so into it, he banged his hands against the mirror and it broke and cut him," the source close to Gyllenhaal said. "It was all the scene and not because he was mad about anything else."

"Jake was indeed filming [the movie] 'Nightcrawler' when during the shooting of the scene his character (purposefully) banged his hand into the mirror," a source close to the actor told ABC News. "Unfortunately the mirror broke and Jake's hand was badly cut up."

"He got numerous stitches at the ER and was released," the source added. Jake went right back to work later that day!

Gyllenhaal is allegedly "starving himself" to lose 20 pounds for his role as a crime-scene reporter in the upcoming drama, The Huffington Post reports.

"Nightcrawler" hits theaters next year.
