Samsung Galaxy S2 Reviews, News: Android 4.4 KitKat Is Not Happening For Former Flagship, Beyond 18-Month Window For New Update Says Google

Samsung Galaxy S2 reviews, news: Despite the Android 4.4 KitKat being available for devices with as low as 512 MB RAM, the Samsung Galaxy S2 - which has a system memory of 1024 MB RAM, is still not getting an update.

The 18-month window from release is when “others traditionally update devices,” and the Samsung Galaxy S2 has been out in the market for more than two years. Most notably, it also did not receive the Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean update.

In a report by Gotta Be Mobile, it noted that Australian-carrier Telstra said that there are no more updates planned for the Samsung Galaxy S2 4G.

According to Gotta Be Mobile, while Telstra’s decision on the Galaxy S2 4G applies to its Australian users, it will very likely apply to the rest of the world as well. The blog suggest that Samsung Galaxy S2 users interested in getting further updates from the Android 4.1 should start seeking help from the development community.

In an earlier report last July, the International Business Times reported that Samsung Galaxy S2 is one of many Galaxy devices included in an end of life cycle with Android 4.2.2. The website cites a source from Samsung sharing the tip.

The Samsung Galaxy S2 Plus, the refreshed model of the S2, has received the Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean update this year and though reports have also indicated that it maybe the last for the device, it’s still rumored that it’s getting the Android 4.3 update.

Samsung unveiled the S2 last February 2011 at the Mobile World Congress and is one of the slimmest smartphone of the time. It has a 1.2GHz dual-core “Exynos” system on a chip (SoC) processor, 1 GB of RAM, a 10.8 cm (4.3 in) WVGA Super AMOLED Plus screen display and an 8-megapixel camera with flash and 1080p full high definition recording.
