NBA Trade Rumors - Deron Williams Will Not Be Traded By Brooklyn Nets; Rockets Abandon Offer For All Star Guard

NBA Trade Rumors were on full discussion in the D-League showcase in Reno. One of the silent buzzes that eventually died down is the Deron Williams to the Houston Rockets trade.

The NBA D-League Showcase is similar to the All-Star Weekend spectacle in the NBA. GMs and executives were in attendance, all the more this season because of the multiple injuries. Many roster spots are open, and they are looking for D-League players to fill in the holes in the roster.

According to CBS Sports Ken Berger, the Rockets bid for Deron Williams (they were offering both Jeremy Lin and Omer Asik) has already dwindled, and Houston has already moved on.

"It made sense on many levels. The Nets would've gotten an insurance policy at center for the often-injured Brook Lopez (who has since been injured again and is out for the year). The Rockets would've solved their own center problem, as Asik doesn't want to remain in Houston. They've been trying to get off the Lin contract, and the Nets are one team that wouldn't mind his $15 million balloon payment next season. All the better to stick it to the Knicks.

But the the idea never gained any traction and was shelved. Now, it's probably dead for good with Williams undergoing multiple injections in his chronically bad ankles this week."

Houston has young core that has many years ahead of them. The Nets have an aging line-up and with the Garnett-Pierce trade, they are planning to go all-in this season. However, they went off to a very shaky start, and further injuries to Deron Williams and Brook Lopez (their two best players) almost forced them to give up on their season. Jeremy Lin and Omer Asik would fill those gaps, but they have to give up their franchise player.

The Nets were reportedly asking for a draft pick (since they had none) but the Rockets would never give that up. They still have more than a month to go before the trade deadline to find a home for Omer Asik. It is likely they can find the right team, especially the contenders who are short of frontline help. NBC Sports has this assessment: "The problem is the $15 million balloon payment Asik is due next year has teams thinking they will wait an extra year until he becomes a free agent and they can get him at a reasonable price. Still, I expect some kind of deal to come together before the trade deadline hits, too many teams could use his defense and rebounding."
