House Of Cards Season 2 Cast Rumors; MSNBC’s Chris Matthews Lands A Cameo Role In Netflix’s Hit Political Drama. What Role Is He Going To Play?

MSNBC newsman Chris Matthews, a self-confessed fan of the Netflix hit show House of Cards, will make an appearance in the Kevin Spacey-starrer television drama.

According to reports, the 68-year old TV journalist is set to appear in the show as, guess what, a TV host. In the show, Matthews will play himself while interview ing Claire Underwood (Robin Wright), lead star Frank Underwood's scheming wife. The scene was shot at a Washington Studio where he tapes "Hardball."

With the fact that Matthews does not appear too often in a drama show, he got some help from Robin Wright who assisted him in the blocking and angling during takes.

Matthews, the renowned host of the NBC News-produced panel discussion program on weekends titled The Chris Matthews Show, has been very vocal of his admiration of the Beau Willimon-created series.

"House of Cards captures the two raw emotions of Washington: envy and fear," he said in an email. "Revenge is of course the fellow traveler to both."

"You can tell from the trailer that the show is going big time -- right to the presidency."

A Democrat, Matthews is the closest that people can get to a 'real' politic-related figure to appear in House of Cards. The most controversial comments he made against any politician is when he called Barack Obama as the Biggest Political of 2013 this month.

Last month, Netflix CEO Reed Hastings met US President Barack Obama who he himself is also an avid fan. Obama asked Hasting if he has some copy of the HOC episodes. Hasting responded by asking if he could do a cameo role. The president didn't make any straight reply but he said:

"I wish things were that ruthlessly efficient," said Obama. "It's true. It's like Kevin Spacey, man this guy's getting a lot of stuff done."
