Mario Kart 8 Release Date: Wii U Game Coming Spring 2014 To US, UK? Will Latest Installment Save Nintendo's Falling Sales?

Find out the latest Mario Kart 8 release date news for the Wii U! Is Mario Kart 8 coming to the US and UK this spring 2014?

According to International Digital Times, the Mario Kart 8 release date is very likely spring 2014, when the US and UK are likely to get the latest Mario Kart installment for Wii U. Along with Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, which has a release date of February 5, 2014, Mario Kart 8 will be one of the biggest Wii U game releases for the first half of this year, the website reports.

Mario Kart Wii was the second best-selling game in the history of the Wii U console, right behind Wii Sports and three slots ahead of New Super Mario Bros. Wii.

According to MCV, industry leaders believe that a bundle containing the Wii U console and the highly-anticipated Mario Kart 8 at a significantly reduced price could help falling Nintendo sales.

"A sub-£200 machine will help, and Mario Kart is desperately needed to reach the fans. We also need something revolutionary that makes use of the second screen and has mainstream appeal, which is easier said than done," said the games boss of one of the UK's biggest retailers, The Epoch Times reports.

Mario Kart 8 falls below $275 (200 euros), meaning that it is more likely to be bundled with the Wii U console, the website reports.

The gameplay of Mario Kart 8 will include new anti-gravity tracks, allowing players to race on vertical and upside-down roads. New courses adding to previous classic ones will also likely feature in the game, as well as coins. For multiplayer mode, the screen will split down the middle vertically instead of the traditional horizontal split.

Meanwhile, Nintendo's Super Smash Bros. For Wii U is also slated to release later this year and is arguably one of the most anticipated games of 2014.
