Ottawa will be hoping to avoid a three-game skid after suffering a 6-3 loss Saturday against the Hurricanes. There are rumors swirling that the Senators could look to make some moves before the NHL breaks for the 2014 Sochi Olympics.

"We identified what our team is right now and possible targets for possible trades," assistant general manager Pierre Dorion told the Ottawa Sun. "Not that we're going to make any trades, but we always have to be ready for that possibility [with] players who we feel could help us in the short or long term."

Coach Paul MacLean knows busting out of this slump needs to happen sooner rather than later if the Sens want to at the very least, be one of the two wild card spots.

"I think in the last month or so we've gained a bit of ground. We weren't even in it and now we are," MacLean said. "The issue with that is now you've got to keep doing it, and we've still got lots of games to keep doing it. Every time you play one it's an opportunity gained or an opportunity lost. Every next game is the biggest game of the season."

After a franchise-high eight-game winning streak, Columbus dropped two in a row, falling from third in the Metropolitan Division to fourth.

"I don't know if we were trying to hold on or playing the game to win," coach Todd Richards said. "We gave up three goals in less than three minutes. For 57 minutes, I thought we managed it fairly well. But three minutes, that's the game. We gave them opportunities, and they cashed in. A couple lost battles along the walls turned into turnovers, and they capitalized."
