Lenovo Buys Motorola Mobility From Google For Almost $3 Billion, Aims To Target US Market In Expansion Of Mobile Devices

For the past few years, Lenovo has worked wonders in the PC industry and in 2012 it even clinched the top spot as the world's no.1 PC manufacturer. However, Lenovo started its aggressive mobile campaign last year when it released several high-end and midrange devices for the international market. And as it aims to expand its market in the US, the Chinese company bought Motorola Mobility for $2.9 Billion.

Currently owned by Google, Motorola's mobile division has seen promise last year when it released the highly-acclaimed Moto X and the super midranger Moto G. However, sales numbers continue to plummet for the US manufacturer.

This means Lenovo might just be doing both companies, Google and Motorola, a favor in the buyout.

According to the report by GSM Arena, Google will still own some of the patents of Motorola including current applications and invention disclosures. On the other hand, Lenovo will receive over 2,000 patents which include the Motorola branding, as well as all its trademarks.

While both tech giants have already agreed to the deal, the agreement is still subject to regulatory approvals in both China and the United States.
