Windows Phone Market Share Mostly Covered By Nokia's Lumia 520, 625 And Other Lower-End Handsets, Could Be The Reason For Normandy's Entry-Level Specs

The Lumia 520 is Nokia's most popular phone to date, but no one imagined it to make quite an impact to the Windows Phone market share pie.

In a monthly report by AdDuplex, it showed that the share of Windows Phone in the market heavily rely on the Lumia 520 which accounts for almost 30 percent of all WP-powered devices on the planet right now.

If we include the carrier-specific version Lumia 521, then that number grows to 34.1 percent, accounting for more than one third of the entire Windows Phone share.

Unsurprisingly, those are not isolated cases as majority of the top 10 Windows Phone handsets in the market do not belong to the flagship category.

The Nokia Lumia 1020 which is packed by an industry-leading 40 megapixels only managed to get to the 11th spot, while the flagship Lumia 1520 is still several notches below at 16th.

There is no doubt Nokia is giving everything it has just to lure in more platform switchers to the Windows Phone mobile OS. However, these switchers are not willing to pay more dollars just to try a new platform, so they go for the Lumia 520, 625, and even the 800.

As for the Nokia X, a.k.a. Normandy, its entry-level specs are supposedly based on these assumptions. However, as most people are already accustomed to Android, they are expecting at least a midranger from the Finnish manufacturer.

Let's just see what else is in store for Nokia and Windows Phone this year.
