Banshee Season 3 Gets Approval From Cinemax; Too Early? Screen Rant Thinks So

Banshee, Cinemax's critically acclaimed action-drama, has barely started its second season. However, as early as now, the American premium cable and TV networkfeels so upbeat with its current run that it decided to renew the show for a third season.

Deadline reported on Thursday the show, which stars Anthony Starr and airs every Friday, will be back in 2015 to continue the story of Lucas Hood, an ex-convict who assumed the role of a town sheriff while trying to get back his life.

Deadline wrote:

The action series, now in its second season, just snagged another early renewal for a third season to air next year. It comes after three episodes, with Episode 4 slated for tomorrow night. Executive produced by Ball, Jonathan Tropper, David Schickler, Peter Macdissi and Greg Yaitanes, Banshee stars Antony Starr as Lucas Hood, an ex-con and master thief who tracks down Carrie Hopewell (Ivana Milicevic), his former lover and partner in crime, who has reinvented herself as the wife of the Banshee, PA prosecutor. In Banshee, Hood assumes the identity of the town's sheriff and continues his criminal activities, even as he's hunted by the shadowy gangsters he betrayed years earlier.

While fans are on a high after learning about the renewal, some critics think that this is a bold from Cinemax, which isn't really lucky when it comes to television drama and actions.

"The show's early renewal is a bold move on the part of Cinemax and one that demonstrates a tremendous amount of faith in its long-term prospects. After all, the only major original series that the network has on the air is the aforementioned Strike Back (which was also recently renewed for its final season). The fact that Banshee has managed to develop a consistent viewership - without any name stars or connections of pre-existing properties (even Game of Thrones has the popularity of the book series behind it) - could be reason enough for Cinemax to let the show bloom," Screen Rant wrote.
