LG G3 Release Date: 5 Details We Think We Know About LG's Newest Flagship Smartphone

Unlike other upcoming flagship devices, there has not been enough LG G3 release date details or rumors circling the Web or piling up in the rumor mill. And that's not an entirely bad thing at all.

It is just we are used to getting leaks and more rumors from leakers and industry supply chains. On the one hand, it is also refreshing to see such a mysterious flagship device weeks before a potential launch date.

Fortunately, there are also a few details we have dug up over the past few months which can spark some interest about the LG G2's successor. Here's what we think we know so far:

1. 2K display

It looks like 2K is the way to go for smartphone manufacturers these days. Vivo and Oppo paved the way, and upcoming devices such as Samsung's Galaxy S5 are also rumored to sport the newest screen resolution tech.

2. A higher-clocked processor or a home-baked octa-core chip

The G2 already boasts the latest Snapdragon 800 SoC, so what can we expect from its newest sibling? Rumor points out that the LG G3 would either have a processor with a higher frequency, or its own Odin octa-core chipset, though we haven't heard much about it for a while now.

3. 3GB of RAM

Due to the release of Android 4.4 KitKat, RAM size has not been too criticized on smartphones nowadays. However, top brands such as Samsung and LG will not waste any chances to impress the public, and 3GB of RAM could be the standard for flagships this year.

4. 16MP Camera

The LG G2 packs a 13MP camera like the Galaxy Note 3, and as the rumored Galaxy S5 will allegedly have a 16MP snapper, it is highly probable that LG will move to that direction as well. The G2 has some great shots especially in low light conditions, and we sure hope the 'other' Korean manufacturer is able to take it one step further.

5. A MWC announcement and May release date

MWC will be held at the end of the month, and mobile brands such as LG will surely grab the opportunity to get the spotlight. Unfortunately, rumors are pointing to a release date as late as May, the 17th to be exact. With the Galaxy S5 as one of its serious contenders, the upcoming LG flagship should find a way to find solid ground before its rival hits the market.
