Colin Farrell and Rachel Weisz Tapped to Star in Yorgos Lanthimos' 'The Lobster'

Casting News: Colin Farrell and Rachel Weisz have been tapped to star in "The Lobster." Farrell and Weisz take the lead roles in the first English language film by Greek director Yorgos Lanthimo, the Oscar-winning director of "Dogtooth" and "Alps." The new Colin Farrell and Rachel Weisz film will be sold by Protagonist Pictures at the European Film Market in Berlin. "The Lobster" will be shot in Ireland. The movie is set to start production on March 24.

Colin Farrell and Rachel Weisz will be joining Ben Whishaw, Lea Seydoux, Olivia Colman, Ariane Labed and Aggeliki Papoulia, who have already been cast. Other roles are still to be announced.

"The Lobster" was co-written by Yorgos Lanthimos and Efthimis Filippou, his long-time collaborator.

Lanthimos said, "I'm very grateful to have the opportunity to work with such great actors. Their contribution to our film will enrich and expand the world we are trying to create and explore. Furthermore our team of old and new collaborators makes me very confident and excited to start making this film."

The Lobster is described as an unconventional love story. It is set in a dystopian future where finding a partner is a matter of life or death.

The Lobster is being produced by Element Pictures, Limp and Scarlet Films as well as Lanthimos, Lee Magiday, Ed Guiney and Ceci Dempsey. Element's Andrew Lowe is the executive producer.

Colin Farrell won a Golden Globe Award for his role in  "In Bruges." Farrell was recently seen in "Saving Mr Banks" from Disney studios. Farrell will star in the upcoming movie "Winter's Tale"which was directed by Akiva Goldsman's for Warner Bros. He will also be seen in Liv Ullman's "Miss Julie," with Jessica Chastain for director Liv Ullmann, and "Solace," supernatural thriller starring Anthony Hopkins that is being directed by Afonso Poyart.

Rachel Weisz won an Oscar and a Golden Globe award for "The Constant Gardener." Weisz also made "The Mummy," "The Bourne Legacy" and "Oz The Great and Powerful."
