‘Game Of Thrones’ Season 4 Spoilers: Emilia Clarke Explains How She’s Similar (And Different) To Daenerys Targaryen; Loves George R.R. Martin’s Book

"Game of Thrones" season 4 star Emilia Clarke recently explained how she's both similar and different to George R.R. Martin's character Daenerys Targaryen from his series "A Song Of Ice And Fire." In a recent interview with The Wall Street Journal, Emilia Clarke revealed how important George R.R. Martin's book was to her when she first started on "Game of Thrones" as Daenerys Targaryen.

"It was like having a cheat sheet," Clarke said in the WSJ interview - the actress features on the cover of the upcoming March Spring Fashion issue. "I took it everywhere with me and kept referring to it, looking for more clues."

Now, Emilia Clarke says she sees more of Daenerys Targaryen in herself.

"It's the growth of a girl into a woman," she explained. "She's being thrown into the deep end, to see if she can sink or swim, and she decides to do it her way. It was wonderful to see a character with such humble beginnings, and such low self-esteem, beginning to trust herself. So my feelings within filming it were echoed-in a much more dramatic way, obviously."

So what's the biggest difference between Emilia and Dany? Emilia is a "goof," WSJ reports.

"She's effing funny," say "Game of Thrones" showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss in an e-mail, the newspaper reports. "Does that mean we've written hilarious scenes for her? No. But someone should."

According to The Wall Street Journal, Emilia sealed the deal at her final "GoT" callback by "busting out her dance moves in front of HBO executives."

Clarke revealed that though she stars with big names in "Game of Thrones" season 4, she rarely sees her other cast members.

"We're [often] in totally different locations," Clarke explained. She filmed "Game of Thrones" season 4 in Ireland and Croatia, and usually only sees the main "Game of Thrones" cast at photo shoots or industry shows.

"You're at an awards show, saying 'Lovely to meet you. We're in a show together, apparently. You're really good!'"
