Windows Phone 8.1: New Update To Mobile OS Rumored To Support Fingerprint Technology, Could Spell The Difference In Mobile Platform Competition

Are you waiting for the Windows Phone 8.1 update? Then you've got to hear this rumor.

For some time now, the Windows Phone OS has been the underdog in the mobile platform battle, with little to no market compared to Android and iOS. However, that changed last year with the massive decline of Blackberry OS, prompting users to switch to WP.

Now, Microsoft wants to ride on that momentum for this year with the release of the platform's newest update.

Simply dubbed as the Windows Phone 8.1, the new version is rumored to provide better multi-tasking capabilities to supported devices compared to previous versions.

Now, a new report also claims that it would support fingerprint technology. Whatever that means so far, we cannot confirm. However, Android Authority reported that it could provide security support for WP-powered devices.

This is certainly a rumor that is difficult to ignore, but in case it is true, then expect Windows Phone OS to make a big splash this year against both Android and iOS.
