Samsung Galaxy S5 Release Date: Tech Giant Reportedly Includes Fingerprint Scanning Home Button, Can Support Up To 8 Fingerprints And Assign Separate Shortcuts

A week before the MWC and the Samsung Galaxy S5 release date and we receive more rumors about the upcoming flagship device.

According to a new report by Android Authority, leaker of all things Samsung SamMobile reported that the Korean tech giant have included a fingerprint scanner at the home button of its upcoming Galaxy S5.

If this tells us something, it is that first: the handset will still have a hardware button as opposed to rumors of on-screen keys just like HTC's. Samsung's home button has not done them harm, yet, so why take it out when it functions perfectly with the entire device?

The presence of the fingerprint also tells us that Samsung is really trying to beat Apple in its own game. The Cupertino company launched its iPhone 5s packed with a fingerprint-sensitive home button, which enables the user to unlock the device using his fingerprints.

However, in the report by SamMobile the Korean manufacturer takes it one step further. While the iPhone 5s only requires a simple touch of the home button, the Galaxy S5 allegedly will require users to swipe their fingers.

While the chore would be inconvenient, the report claims that it would be more secure that way. In addition, the fingerprint sensor in the home button can also store up to eight fingerprints.

That means you can use several fingers and register them to the device, each one having its own specific task or function.

All of these sound too good to be true, but who knows? Samsung may be able to pull a very large rabbit out of Apple's hat.
