Nirvana Reunion 2014: Kurt Cobain Weeping Statue Unveiled In Rock Star’s Hometown In Aberdeen In Preparation For Band’s Rock Hall Induction

Nirvana Reunion 2014: A statue of the late front man of the 90's Grunge band Nirvana, Kurt Cobain was unveiled in the front man's hometown in Aberdeen, Washington. The city recently celebrated the singer's would have been 47th birthday and at the same time celebrated Kurt Cobain Day, unveiling the statue in the process.

In a speech by Aberdeen's Mayor Bill Simpson in commemoration of Kurt Cobain Day, he said: "Aberdeen residents may justifiably take pride in the role our community played in the life of Kurt Cobain and the international recognition our community has gained from its connections with Kurt Cobain and his artistic achievements."

Neighboring cities however, will celebrate Kurt Cobain Day in a different day of April 10, starting this year, the day that Nirvana would be inducted to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Meanwhile, Nirvana, which was nominated for the first time, as it is eligible this year after they released their first single "Love Buzz" in 1988.

"That's really no surprise to me," says Rock and Roll Hall of Fame President and CEO Joel Peresman to Rolling Stones. "People see the relevancy of that band. We're just getting into the creative of the show, so I don't know what's going to happen with that performance. They have to figure it out."

Living members of the band Nirvana were ecstatic and very happy with the announcement. Nirvana Drummer Dave Grohl, now fronting the band Foo Fighters, expressed his appreciation for the award and thanked his band mates saying, without them he will be nothing today.

"For once... I'm speechless," Grohl said in a statement.  "From the basements, to the dingy clubs, to the broken down vans, to... the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. I'd like to thank the committee not only for this induction, but also for recognizing Nirvana for what we were: pure rock and roll. Most of all, thank you to all of the fans that have supported rock and roll throughout the years, and to Kurt and Krist, without whom I would not be here today."

Also, members of the band remember Kurt Cobain for inspiring people to make great music and said they honor the award to the late musician.

"This is a great honor," Nirvana bassist Krist Novoselic gladly said after hearing the news. "Thank you to the people who nominated and voted for us. Thank you most of all to Kurt Cobain. And to everyone who's kept Rock music going strong for 60 years and counting."
