Richie Sambora: Heather Locklear Is Still Hot! Bon Jovi Axeman Proud To Trade Guitar For Diapers And Becoming A DIY Dad!

Richie Sambora, the former Bon Jovie guitarist, had a divorce with his former wife, TV star Heather Locklear. Both parties are now good friends, and Sambora salutes his ex for being a good mom to their daughter.

Sambora is currently was interviewed by People Magazine when he was at the Hollywood Walk of Fame to celebrate Ray Parker Jr's star. His first compliment about his ex-wife was about the first thing that caught his attention: Her looks.

From People: "She's doing her thing on Franklin & Bash and she looks better than ever! She's still hot!" 

The couple had been divorced since 2007 but remained amicable and became friends since then. Sambora is proud of that fact and how it shows their maturity to put differences aside for the welfare of their daughter. "We're better friends now than ever." 

He elaborates: "If you don't get along you are messing the kid up. That's what happens. So you have to put that before whatever s--- is going on. Communication has got to come first. There's a cooling off period obviously, as you know - it takes time. It was almost 10 years ago though. So we're fine." 

He shares that he and Locklear spend Thanksgiving, Christmas and other holidays together with their daughter.

He recounts how he traded late night gigs to man the 'night shift': "When she was born, I was making a solo album here and when you are the boss you make your own hours. Heather was working really hard on Spin City at that time and so I was the guy that got up in the middle of the night and changed the diapers. I was Dad."

How is their daughter (Ava) doing now? "She's a really good kid. You have to give them the tools to take care of themselves and almost force them when they are small to make decisions on their own so they then get in that groove." 

Despite his tough looks, he was a real soft dad: "I never talked down to her, even when she was a kid. [Now] I rarely have to reprimand her. She's fantastic."

Sambora just returned to LA from his Australia tour.
