‘Avengers: Age Of Ultron' Plot Spoilers: Nick Fury To Assume Bigger Role As SHIELD Collapses! Will He Become A Full Time Avenger?

Nick Fury, the director of SHIELD and Avengers collaborator will take a bigger role as an individual. Without a multi-billion dollar agency behind him, he has to be more of an underground hero, just like his roots.

The possible collapse of SHIELD was projected to be part of the "Avengers" sequel, but it was already portrayed in "Captain America: The Winter Soldier." No surprise, as the political intrigue of Captain America's world would run smack into SHIELD and inevitably, Earth's Mightiest Heroes.

In fact, Anthony Mackie, the outspoken star of "The Winter Soldier" as Falcon had this description of the movie. From Moviefone: This movie, "Captain America," has kind of become "Avengers 1.5"; if you look at the cast they've put together, if you look at the number of characters that are in this movie. I mean, it's a huge number of superheroes and characters. The basic idea is that you have Captain America, Black Widow, and Falcon that get together to take down the Winter Soldier."

It's not just about the team-up aspect, it's also about how the plot of The Winter Soldier is so interwoven with The Avengers-as opposed to "Thor: The Dark World" and "Iron Man 3" which had no help from SHIELD whatsoever.

At the end of the "Captain America" sequel, he is no longer an agent of SHIELD and presumed dead. However, he will be chasing down villains on his own. It is believed that his next film appearance will be in the Avengers sequel (as there's only Guardians of the Galaxy before that) but in an entirely different form. From What Culture:

"Fury will likely be operating from one of his secret bases, which could indicate that a location such as the Savage Land could play a part in the movie. Either way, Fury's role will certainly be very different to anything we've seen from him so far."

The Savage Land? What about Wakanda-the African nation which would be referenced in "Avengers: Age Of Ultron" and ruled by T'Challa AKA The Black Panther?

It does coincide with the new "global" theme of the Avengers as they take the mantle of "Earth's Mightiest Heroes" and no longer "Another Super Hero Group Based in New York." The big question: Now that he's not in SHIELD, will he join the globe-trotting Avengers?

The Avengers and Nick Fury will meet again, but how and where is a good question. May 1, 2015 is more than a year away.
