Sherlock Season 4 Release Air Date Reports From Benedict Cumberbatch Conflict With Steven Moffat: 'Star Trek' Star Rejects Doctor Who Crossover Idea

As rumors on a "Sherlock" season 4 release date continue to swirl, there appears to be conflicting reports on the matter.

Quotes from Benedict Cumberbatch has fans more worried than before on the release of "Sherlock" season 4, as he appears to have no idea when it will happen.

“That’s not me trying to be mysterious,” he says according to Hypable. “None of us know if there will be a fourth, fifth or sixth series.”

Right now, executive producer Steven Moffat believes that "Sherlock" season 4 may not happen until 2015 or 2016.

This, at least, is Martin Freeman's theory as to the return of the new series. However a spokesperson for the show tells the Mirror that nothing is decided.

“Conversations are still ongoing regarding Sherlock’s return,” says the spokesperson to the Mirror. “Steven Moffat has already said that he has mapped out a fourth series, but it is always depending on cast availability.”

Meanwhile, Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman will ignite the London theater stage this summer.

According to Hypable, Martin Freeman will play Richard III from July through September at Trafalgar Studios. Cumberbatch will play Hamlet at the Barbican Theatre in August 2015 for a three-month run.

But amidst all the "Sherlock" season 4 release date rumors, Benedict Cumberbatch is clear about one thing.

“I’m never gonna play The Doctor and [will have] nothing to do with the Whoniverse.”

So there you have it.
