Upcoming Android Tablets 2014: Nexus 8 Already Under Development By Google And HTC, Specs Would Be On The Higher-End Level

Upcoming Android tablets 2014: For months, we have been waiting for an announcement of the next generation Nexus 7, though it appears that Google has other things in mind.

In a report several weeks ago, the search giant is reportedly planning to work on a bigger 8-inch model, and it has tapped Taiwanese mobile devices manufacturer HTC to do the job, says 'upstream supply chains'.

According to the report by GSM Arena and DigiTimes, this is not the first time Google asked HTC to work on a Nexus slate project. However, the Taiwanese manufacturer has been too busy then, and it focused on its smartphones instead.

Now that its smartphones (its flagship and midrangers) have been doing well, HTC has finally agreed to work on the Nexus tablet - and it is the first of its kind in the pure Android lineup.

Reports for the past months point to an Intel chipset instead of Snapdragon, as well as a much more high-end list of specifications. Hopefully, there would be an 8MP primary, a 2GB of RAM, and QHD or 2K (2560 x 1600) display. Of course given such specs, we can also expect a huge battery to power the device.

And like other Nexus devices, the Nexus 8 would run on the latest version of Android KitKat, 4.4.3.

There were also reports of an 8.9-inch screen, though recently that has been trimmed down to just 8 inches. We still cannot guarantee anything unless Google or HTC makes the official announcement.

In the report, Asus was also asked to work on a Nexus device, though the company may be focused on developing its own brand of Asus Iconia tablets.

Google's I/O conference will be held in June, and GSM Arena says that the Nexus 8 tablet may make its debut there. So are you betting on this first HTC-made Nexus slate?
