‘The Amazing Spider Man’ Spinoff: Sinister Six Line-Up Not Based On The Comics' Team! Producer Declares It's 'The Best Six You Can Imagine!'

"The Amazing Spider Man 2" will be released in days, but Sony is already teasing their future projects specifically the "Sinister Six" spinoff that will be helmed by Drew Goddard.

Goddard is best-known for "The Cabin in the Woods" which is a horror, sci-fi film co-written by Joss Whedon of The Avengers fame. Needless to say, Goddard is a comic book aficionado himself.

The big question is the characters he will direct. Who will comprise the Sinister Six, the first super villain team to headline their own feature film? This is a daring project from the get-go, and with the stiff competition Sony needs heavyweights to draw in the viewers.

The original Sinister Six from the comics were Electro, Doctor Octopus, Sandman, Vulture, Kraven The Hunter and Mysterio. Will they adopt that roster?

Producer Matt Tolmach did not assure anything. From IGN, he states: "Nothing is sacred. I mean it's going to be the best Six that you can imagine, but it's going to make sense in the world that we're building."

Co-Producer Avi Arad also clarifies the accusation that they are deviating from the 'classic' stories: "When you translate comic to film the word 'classic' means the first fifty issues. Because after that we all made changes; changes that had to do with science-fiction turning into science. I think just the need to move this world forward."

"So, of course we'll make adaptations about these guys and what was their motivations because many of them have multiple motivations. It depends, is it ultimate Spider-Man? Is it Spider-Man? Is it some three-piece issue that takes them to space? We have a bigger responsibility to represent the character of the villain as it was conceived, because that way it will survive the test of time. All the rest... that's a movie. What an opportunity to make-- can you imagine seeing Paul Giamatti in a leather suit? I think they would have killed us. They gave us a hard time with the Lizard."

Artistic license on the storylines is something all of the four studios who make the superhero movies have exercised, seemingly with full consent. Sony has the biggest challenge to create a full universe from the smallest number of characters in the Spider Man universe (as compared to Marvel or the X-Men universe). They need the privilege to present the villains in a way that the audience will sympathize with them.

The Sinister Six Movie is slated for release before the "Amazing Spider Man 4" movie in 2018.
