Chris Paul Superstar Question[VIDEO]: Skip Bayless Claims CP3 Not A Superstar! 'He Can't Carry A Team In The Playoffs!' Are All Point Guards Doomed To Supporting Roles?

Chris Paul is known as the best point guard in the NBA and possibly the world. Does that mean he's a superstar? Notorious ESPN analyst Skip Bayless says 'NO!'

Some of his main contentions is Chris Paul's inability to lead a team to the Finals. Other superstars have done that. In their 'First Take' debate, Bayless notes that Paul only led his team past the first round twice in nine years. His post season record is also 16-24.

On the opposing side, Steven Smith contends that CP3's duties as a point guard required him to distribute the ball and facilitate the play. Thus, he would be more affected by his teammates' play than other stars like LeBron James, Kobe Bryant or Dwight Howard who are not point guards.

Which brings us to the other issue facing point guards-that they are doomed to be in a supporting role. Paul now has better teammates and a champion coach in Doc Rivers. He was predicted to be an MVP contender, but he's not. Instead, his teammate Blake Griffin is now third in the MVP race behind long-time rivals Kevin Durant and LeBron James.

Grantland had this analysis: "When L.A. runs the offense through Blake Griffin, it leads to easy shots for everybody on the floor, and the whole team becomes twice as hard to stop. As the second half turned into a blowout, it got me thinking of the overrated/underrated Chris Paul conversation again, and the twist with this Clippers team.

Paul is still L.A.'s best player and he can still take over games, but the Clippers are so much better when he's balancing his Hulk side with the side that actually plays point guard, letting Griffin be the superhero. Part of that balancing act is his responsibility, and part of it is on his teammates to be good enough to carry the load."

This is the story of MVP point guards Steve Nash and Derrick Rose who never won championships. Nash is particularly notable. He had a team running an offense tailor made for his skills in Phoenix. It made him a monster with the stats and a two-time MVP, but not a champion. Granted, the competition was stiff with two dynasties in their conference (San Antonio Spurs, LA Lakers) but the fact remains that Nash is 40 and has no rings.

Will CP3 suffer the same fate? Grantland reiterates the sad point: "When all is said and done, it doesn't matter how unbelievable CP3 can be in the playoffs. The person who defines how we remember Chris Paul is probably Blake Griffin."
