Avril Lavigne 'Hello Kitty' Music Video Not Racist, It Celebrates J-Pop and K-Pop in a Fun and Loving Light; Avril Lavigne Obviously A Fan [VIDEO]

Avril Lavigne's 'Hello Kitty' music video got slammed by the media for being racist, leading Avril to spend the day apologizing and explaining what should have been obvious to everyone: Avril an unabashed fan of J-Pop who wanted to pay it homage. J-Pop and K-Pop are being embraced in America, Girls' Generation pulled the Music Video of the Year Award at the YouTube Music Awards last year, and Avril is giving it a big Hello Kitty hug of her own.

Imitation is supposed to be the highest form of flattery. Avril Lavigne didn't just copy the J-Pop/K-Pop style, she went for full immersion. She flew out to Japan to work with her dream team.

Now Avril Lavigne getting hit with charges that her new "Hello Kitty" video is a racist portrayal of Japanese culture. In the video Avril dances her way across Tokyo backed by four young Asian women.

Avril Lavigne  took to Twitter to explain "RACIST??? LOLOLOL!!! I love Japanese culture and I spend half of my time in Japan. I flew to Tokyo to shoot this video... ...specifically for my Japanese fans, WITH my Japanese label, Japanese choreographers AND a Japanese director IN Japan."

Avril wrote "Hello Kitty" with her by husband, Nickelback frontman Chad Kroeger. The song isn't to everyone's taste, it's a slight departure in rhythmic backing for Lavigne. The lyrics are joyous, but rumors flew yesterday that the "Sk8ter Boi" singer took it down from YouTube because of the charges. Nothing could be further from the truth.

A spokesperson for Lavigne said "It was not pulled from YouTube, but it was GEO BLOCKED as VEVO is set to premiere it exclusively tomorrow! Fans were ripping the video and posting to YouTube and then getting removed due to the geo-blocking."

"Hello Kitty" pulled in 173,000 views. "Hello Kitty" is the fourth music video to come out from Avril Lavigne's upcoming fifth studio album.
