‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ Cast Rumors: Channing Tatum Confirmed As Gambit! Director Bryan Singer Considering Cajun In Sequel To 'Days Of Future Past!'

When a Hollywood A-lister requests for a role, you don't say 'No.' "X-Men: Apocalypse may have its newest cast addition: Channing Tatum as Gambit.

It all started with an interview for "White House Down." Tatum with co-star and seemingly new BFF Jamie Foxx was answering some questions about the movie and other stuff.

The discussion veered towards comic book movies after Foxx was asked about his Electro role in "The Amazing Spider Man 2." Total Film got these momentous words:

"I would like to play Gambit. Gambit's my favorite. I'm from New Orleans, around that area. My dad's from New Orleans, and I like to do a Cajun accent. I could do it for real. No knock on Taylor Kitsch, though, 'cause I actually like his Gambit, but I've always lived around Cajun people. Gambit was always like the woman-loving, cigarette-smoking, drinking [guy]. He was the punk rock of all the superheroes. He's a thief. He kind of rode the line."

The idea that one of Hollywood's top draws actually volunteered to play one of your characters-it's a producer's dream. It was only a matter of time before Channing Tatum as Gambit was seriously discussed by the Fox bigwigs.

And now, Lauren Shuler-Donner, longtime producer of the X-Men, has all but confirmed that Tatum has been given the role. She spoke to Total Film:

"Well you know he's a rogue, Channing. He's a rascal, just like Remy LeBeau, and he can handle the action, we all know that. He's got a really good heart, because I know him personally, I did a movie with him. So I think he'll be great, he'll be great for Gambit, and he's a southerner too, he's not from New Orleans but he is a southerner and he understands that world, and you know Gambit loves New Orleans."

The only question remaining is which movie he will first appear in. There are plans for a solo movie, and Tatum is already a proven lead star-but Fox may already have its hands full with "X-Men: Apocalypse" and "Wolverine 3" possibly shooting back to back.

Director Bryan Singer is still finalizing his mutant roll call for the Apocalypse, and Gambit had also been one of the Horsemen. It's a definite possibility, to say the least.

May 27, 2016 is the date for "X-Men: Apocalypse" Gambit or no Gambit.
