Center fielder Juan Lagares is expected to return to the starting lineup Saturday, after being absent from it in four of the Mets' last five games. Known primarily for his defensive abilities, Lagares will look to jumpstart an offense that has struggled since leaving Yankee Stadium earlier this week, according to MLB.com.
"It's a little hard, but you have to be ready for the opportunity," Lagares said of playing so infrequently. "You never know what's going to happen. When you play every day, you can make better adjustments. You just have to be ready for it. I just come here ready to play every day."
Even with injuries to Ryan Zimmerman, Bryce Harper and Adam LaRoche, the Nats are three games above .500, entering Saturday just a half-game behind the Braves in the NL East.
"I think we're in good position," manager Matt Williams said. "It's not what we wanted, for sure, but I think we're in good position, given all the stuff that's happened. But we're not alone and we have to continue to do things right. It's a little bit like we've been bobbing around, keeping our head above water, but we haven't started swimming yet necessarily."
