Moto E Specs: Motorola's Affordable Handset Pitted Against Samsung's Galaxy S5, Performs Surprisingly Well

Moto E specs: Motorola has recently unveiled its Moto E smartphone that is more affordable than the Moto G when it was first launched by the end of last year. But in spite its meager specs, the new Android device is able to perform well thanks in part to Android 4.4 Kit Kat.

In fact, it is able to hold its own against the top of the Android ecosystem - the Samsung Galaxy S5.

In a comparison made by Android Community, while the Motorola Moto E is almost 1 inch shorter than the Galaxy S5, the design does not lag too far from the Samsung flagship. The more curved back of the Moto E makes it easier to hold, though the Galaxy S5's 'dotted' design is still a looker in its own right.

As for performance, the Moto E only packs a dual-core CPU, a Snapdragon 200 chipset, and only 1GB of RAM. In comparison, the Samsung device boasts a quad-core CPU, 2GB of RAM and a Snapdragon 801 SoC.

Surprisingly, in the test, both the Motorola Moto E and Galaxy S5 had similar time reactions from unlocking the device to homescreen transitions.

In the comparison, this similarity in performance from both devices is credited to the work of Android 4.4 Kit Kat in the Motorola Moto E. The Galaxy S5 also packs the same Android version, but like years in the past, its TouchWiz UI is still in the way.

The author concludes that in usual and normal tasks such text messaing, calls, app transitions and other 'regular' tasks, the Moto E managed to catch up with the Galaxy S5. However, for apps and games which require more RAM and processing power, the Motorola handset will surely fall short.

But at only $129, the Moto E is certainly a decent smartphone for the entry-level user.
