George R.R. Martin’s ‘Winds of Winter’ Release Date Still Hangs In Limbo; More ‘Game Of Thrones’ Possible?

George R.R. Martin's "Winds of Winter" release date still hangs in limbo but editor Anne Lesley Groell is keeping hopes up of "Game of Thrones" fans after hinting that an eight book of the "A Song of Fire and Ice" series may be possible.

"I remember when he called me, years and years back, to confess that his little trilogy was...well...no longer a trilogy. He predicted four books. I said Seven Books for Seven Kingdoms. Then he said five books. I said Seven Books for Seven Kingdoms. Then he went to six. I said... Well, you get it," she said during a Q&A with fans published on Suduvu Universe.

However, Anne Groell realized that seven books may not be enough because there are actually eight kingdoms in George R. R. Martin's world, "all having to do with who has annexed what when Aegon the Conqueror landed in Westeros."

"So, maybe eight books for Seven Kingdoms would be okay," she added.

Although the editor said that she has no idea about George R. R. Martin's "Winds of Winter" release date, she said that they hope "to have it reasonably soon."

"When I have a date, you will have a date," she said in reply to a fan who wanted to know the George R. R. Martin's "Winds of Winter" release date.

That's good news for "Game of Thrones" fans because it means the HBO hit series might be extended as the events of the TV show are threatening to catch up to George R. R. Martin's novels.

However, George R. R. Martin doesn't believe on spoilers as he wrote in his blog grrm.livejournal.com:

"If something happens on the show before it happens in the book, I suppose one could call that a spoiler. If something happens on the show, but happens very differently in the books, is that still a spoiler? If something happens on the show, but never happens in books, what precisely was spoiled?" he wrote.

Then he added:

"And how many children did Scarlett O'Hara have, anyway?"
