’10 Things I Hate About You’ Sequel Release Date, Updates: Producers To Sue Evan Rachel Wood For Dropping Out Of Production

Romantic comedy flick '10 Things I Hate about You' became a box-office hit in 1999 and with this, producers have made an attempt to create a follow-up film whose original version featured the late Heath Ledger, Julia Stiles, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

The '10 Things I Hate about You' sequel has a working title of '10 Things I Hate about Life.' As opposed to the first movie's story, the sequel will revolve around two persons who meet and fall in love after separately attempting to commit suicide. To play the lead role is Evan Rachel Wood. However, producers will reportedly sue the 'Across the Universe' actress for dropping out of the project in a sudden.

The 'Thirteen' star received an initial payment of $300,000 for the lead role. She was likewise able to complete four weeks of filming before quitting. As per reports, producers are about to file a lawsuit in an attempt to claim more than $30 million for damages.

The ten-page document penned by the producers detailed the expenses Wood had to pay for quitting the '10 Things I Hate about You' sequel - $20 million in lost profits, $6 million in equity investments, $500,000 in financing costs, and $5 million in general damages.

However, Wood's team says that the lawsuit is unfounded simply because it was the production team which halted the filming because of shortage in budget. The representatives of the Raleigh-born actress said:

"The lawsuit is preposterous and simply a bullying tactic from financially troubled producers. The production shut down in February 2013 when the producers ran out of money. Even after that, Evan agreed to resume production in Nov. 2013 by which time the producers said they would have cleared up their issues. However, the producers still could not get their act together, nor did they pay Evan money that was owed. Repeated subsequent promises by the producers to resume production and pay Evan also turned out to be false. Enough is enough. The producers, not Evan, have breached contract."

Recently, the 27-year-old actress received honors at the Maui Film Festival in Wailea, Hawaii. It isn't clear yet whether the producers will be searching for another lead actress for the '10 Things I Hate about You' sequel.
