Upcoming Sony Phones 2014: Xperia Z2 Variant Will Arrive In Taiwan As ZL2 In July, Specs Incl. 5" Display, 3GB RAM, 20.7 Exmor Lens

It has been almost half a year since the Japanese company announced one of its top upcoming Sony phones for 2014, and quite disappointingly, its phones have yet to make their much expected impact in the market.

One reason for this is Sony's strategy in limiting the number of regions where its devices will sell. The UK and Europe are part of it and so is Japan. However, it looks like the company wants to expand in Asia as a variant of its Xperia Z2 flagship is set to hit the Taiwanese market.

According to a report by GSM Arena, the Android-powered handset will be headed to the Asian country beginning in Taiwan under the name Xperia ZL2. The Sony phone will be an LTE enabled device which supports the LTE network of the country's local carriers.

So what made the guys at GSM Arena tell that this is an Xperia Z2 variant aside from the name? The Sony Xperia ZL2 packs a 5-inch display with Full HD (1920 x 1080) resolution, which is slightly lower than the Z2 which has 5.2 inches of screen estate.

The upcoming Sony phone also boasts a 20.7 Exmor Sensor which is also seen in the current Sony flagship. Other specs of the device are all identical to the specs of the Xperia Z2 such as the Snapdragonn 801 chipset, quad-core CPU running at 2.5GHz, and 3GB of RAM.

In the report, the only difference between is the two is the smaller internal memory in the ZL2, which only gets 16GB whereas the Xperia Z2 has a 32GB built-in memory. Thankfully, there is a microSD card slot for memory expansion.

As expected of Sony flagships, the Xperia ZL2 should also come with water resistant and dust resistance body. The new Android phone is also slightly thicker than the Z2 by 2mm.

If you are living in Taiwan and you want to get this phone from your carrier, you just have to wait a few more weeks.
