Facebook Employee Pays 20,000 dollars to have George RR Martin Kill Him Off in Next Game of Thrones Book. Possible Spoilers Revealed [PHOTO]

When he's not busy writing the next installment of "The Song of Ice and Fire," author George RR Martin has been raising money for the Wild Spirit Wolf Sanctuary in New Mexico. One of the prizes he auctioned off for $20,000 was the opportunity to become a character, and then be brutally murdered in the upcoming installment of his books.

In less than 24 hours Dave Goldblatt, a Facebook employee, jumped on the opportunity. "I'm just lucky enough to be in a position to do this," Goldblatt said, "Obviously, the money is going to charity, so it's an added bonus. I didn't immediately seek to help wolf sanctuaries, but the more I read about the charities, I learned it was a worthwhile cause." The woman who won the second spot chose to remain anonymous.

The most interesting bit of this story comes from the fact that the winners of the prize got to pick who they would be in the book, knight or peasant, wench or lady. Goldblatt said he wanted to be Valyrian, as in the long dead race of people from who Daenerys descends. You know, when she starts speaking that crazy language, that's Valryian. All the cool swords come from Valyria. Does this mean we can expect the return of the Valryians in the next book? For now only Martin knows.

In the meantime Martin is content to raise money for the wolves.

"I've always been fond of wolves... direwolves in Westeros, and real wolves in the real world. US wolf populations hit critical lows during the twentieth century, and finding a way for humans to co-exist with this majestic creatures is an important part of the conservation movement."

The charity drive is still ongoing, and Martin plans to add a new 20,000 dollar prize every week. Other smaller prizes include autographed scripts and maps of Westeros, a personalized tour of the wolf sanctuary with Martin, and even one of his trademark hats.
