Cheap Android Phones 2014: Karbonn And Flipkart Release Most Affordable Android Phone On The Planet

If you are particularly interested in cheap Android phones for 2014, then this should be your lucky day. 

According to a recent report by GSM Arena, Indian mobile manufacturer Karbonn has teamed up with the country's leading online retailer Flipkart to launch the Karbonn A50.

Running Android inside, the device looks just like a feature phone, with only 3.5 inch of screen real estate that is powered by a 480x320 display resolution. Surprsingly, the phone runs a decent chipset in MediaTek and packs a dual-core CPU clocked at 1.2GHz. There is a 256MB RAM to enable the device to run very basic phone and Android features, and a 512MB internal memory with microSD card support. 

The Karbonn A50 also supports dual-SIM features which are very important selling points for the Indian mobile market. Completing the hardware spec sheet is a 2MP rear camera and a VGA front cam. 

With these listed specs, it would surely be probable that the Karbonn A50 would be priced anywhere within the $100 category. 

Not even close. 

In the report, working with Flipkart has enabled Karbonn to lower the price even more for its entry-level device, bringing it down to an incredibly low price of about $47. This makes the Android-powered handset the cheapest smartphone you can buy your money right now. 

If you don't think that is cheap, just imagine that you can buy more than 60 units of this device with the money you would use in getting the Samsung Galaxy S5. With the phone's respectable specs which would surely provide the basic phone functions, this is a steal for first-time smartphone users. 

Karbonn has done a great job both in keeping the smartphone's specs decent, and getting a lower retail price for it. Unfortunately for buyers who are already Android users, they may be disappointed with the phone's Android version, which is only 4.2 Jelly Bean and not Kit Kat, the latter optimized to run on lower spec'd devices.
