Chubby Checker Twists The Knife Away; Tells Rock and Roll Hall of Fame `Induct Me or Drop Dead’; The Twist Was the Sixties Version of Miley Cyrus’ The Twerk

Chubby Checker wants to twist again, like he does every summer. The hit making rock and roll pioneer wants to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame while he's still able to shake his money maker. Chubby Checker's The Twist was as popular in its time as Miley Cyrus' The Twerk.

Chubby Checker wants Rock and Roll Hall of Fame to induct him soon. If they don't, he says, they can "drop dead."

Speaking from the red carpet for the annual Songwriters Hall of Fame gala in New York Checker said "'Let's Twist Again' was the first rock 'n' roll song that received a Grammy (in 1962)."

It's not just that Chubby Checker wants to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, he wants to get in before it's too late. Chubby's early 60s hits "The Twist" and "Let's Twist Again" are two of the most popular songs in Rock and Roll history. The Twisting singer is one of the few artists ever to reach number one twice with the same song.

Chubby Checker said "I don't want to get in there when I'm 85 years old. I'll tell them to drop dead, so you better do it quick while I'm still smiling."

Checker says his place in the Cleveland, Ohio-based Rock and Roll Hall of Fame can sustain his career.

"If you put me in when I'm too old to make a living, then it's no good for me to be in there," he said. "The Rolling Stones, they're in there. The Beastie Boys are in there, they're young. Hall and Oates were just in there and they're still making money."

Checker performed "Let's Twist Again" for the ASCAP Centennial celebration at the annual Songwriters Hall of Fame gala.

Songwriter Kenny Gamble of the songwriting team Gamble and Huff added "I think Chubby Checker should be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He's the only person I know to have the same song go to No. 1 twice."
