Upcoming Nokia Phones 2014: Microsoft Working With Nokia To Launch The First Android-Powered Lumia? Why?

A lot of people became very excited when news broke out that one of the upcoming Nokia phones for 2014 would be an Android device.

However, most people were disappointed to see that the device is merely an entry-level or low midranger at most. To make things worse, the device do not allow Google services nor access to the Play Store, which is almost taking the essence of Android away from itself.

Still, the Redmond giant and its faithful mobile manufacturer wants to take it to the next level.

According to a report by GSM Arena, seasoned leakster EV Leaks has acquired some intel that the two are already working on a Lumia device - powered by Android.

Wait, what?

You read that right. Microsoft and Nokia's sole handset lineup that preaches Windows Phone to the world will soon have an Android counterpart, and interestingly the Lumia branding will remain. We thought that would never happen, hence the first Android phone from Nokia was named X, then X+, XL, and more recently, X2.

As a contender to the almighty Android, Windows Phone needs all the help it can get, but its maker Microsoft has other things in mind.

In the report, it looks like the Redmond giant will try to promote its services such as Bing, Outlook, OneDrive, OneNote, etc. to consumers who would get this Android-powered Lumia, which would be expectedly devoid of all Google services.

Eventually, Microsoft's plan is to lure consumers to the Windows Phone platform by allowing them to experience bits and pieces of it through the Lumia running on Android.

While there is certainly some sense in this, it still remains cloudy what Microsoft really wants to achieve in the process. Of course we love the hardware of Nokia since the dawn of the mobile phone so we can look forward to this Android device as it tries to compete in a very competitive market.
