Harry Potter Spin-Off `Pottermore’ Debut Today; Harry Potter Goes to The Quidditch World Cup With `Threads of Silver’ In His Hair

Harry Potter spin-off, "Pottermore," debuted today and Harry isn't the young student wizard anymore.

A new Harry Potter short story by J.K. Rowling shows The Boy Who Lived getting older. Rowling has already conjured a West End prequel to the Harry Potter universe, and is currently at work summoning an upcoming spin off  called "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them."

The new Harry Potter spinoff, "Pottermore," is a 1,500-word story written as if it were an article in the wizardly gossip zine, the Daily Prophet. Ostensibly penned by Rita Skeeter, the columnist is stalking Harry, who is now his 30s, while he's taking in the Quidditch World Cup in Argentina's Patagonia Desert with his old friends Ron and Hermione and their children.

Harry now has "threads of silver" in his hair. He also has a mysterious wound on his cheekbone, that Rita dishes has something to do with his "top secret" work as an Auror.

Skeeter also reveals that Harry and friends are "no longer the fresh-faced teenagers they were in their heyday." Even if Harry still wears "the distinctive round glasses that some might say are better suited to a style-deficient 12-year-old."

Hermione is now the Deputy Head of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement.

Ron Weasley runs the family joke shop and his red hair "appears to be thinning slightly."

 She doesn't miss the opportunity to question the state of affairs in Harry's marriage to Ginny Weasley.

We also get to hear about what Neville Longbottom and Luna Lovegood are up to.

Rowling still maintains that "Deathly Hallows," was the last Potter novel, but she can still have quick fun with the characters, like she did in the spin-off story collection, "The Tales of Beedle the Bard." Rowling has also published "The Casual Vacancy" under the pseudonym Robert Galbraith.
