Huawei Ascend P6 Review: Specs Of New Flagship Model Incl. 4.2.2 Jelly Bean OS, Quad-core Processor, 2 GB RAM, Up To 16 Internal Memory; Knock-out Body But Software Lacks Kick

Huawei Ascend P6 review: The new 4.7-inch smartphone sports a 2 GB RAM, 8 or 16 GB internal memory (expandable up to32 GB), Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean OS, and an 8 MP camera, powered by a Quad-core 1.5 GHz processor. Will Huawei’s latest flagship model let the company in with the big leagues?

Judging from its initial looks, there is no doubt that the Ascend P6 is one of—if not the most—Huawei’s most powerful devices released in the market. Its 5.22 x 2.58 x 0.24 inch dimension, 120 gram weight, and brushed-metal finish (which is available in black, white, pink) give the mobile good, solid feel and a premium look.

However, after peeling off its exterior, can we still see the Ascend P6 as an alternative or even a better choice than other high-end models?

When it comes to display, the Ascend P6 fares well with its 4.7-inch IPS+ LCD capacitive touchscreen and a resolution of 1,280 x 720 pixels. Considering that many mobiles within its range have 400 and above pixel display, the Ascend P6’s 312-ppi screen is still crisp and clear. However, its colors sometimes tend to appear oversaturated.

“We're inclined to give the Ascend a solid pass in the display department,” critiqued engadget.com.

With a rear camera that renders 8 Megapixels with an autofocus and LED flash and an 5-MP front camera, Huawei’s flagship model is quite impressive when it comes to shooting capabilities, as rated in engadget.com. It also has a 1080p video capability.

Rated as having a “modest battery life” by the same site, the Ascend P6 is powered by a Li-Po 2000 mAh battery. It can reach up to an impressive 416-hour stand-by time and 28 hours of talk time.

Overall, the Huawei Ascend P6 sports of a stellar body, fair display, good camera, medium battery life, and at par software performance. It is definitely an innovation for the company as it tries to reach a bigger market with a wider set of users. However, the handset still lacks a certain punch under the hood to really make a huge drastic dent in sales.

Huawei is distributing the handset across Europe, China and Australia this year, retailing at $600.
