Nexus 8 vs. Nexus 7: A Comparison Of The Latest Google Tablet’s Specs, Performance; How Are the Two Different?

Nexus 8 vs. Nexus 7: Before the release of the Nexus 8 this summer 2014, here is a quick comparison of how the two Google tablets fare in specs and performance.

DISPLAY & DESIGN

The Nexus 7 tablet’s body is primarily made of rubberized plastic metal. Its front panel sports a black strip of glass that covers the display and blends with the rear panel. The Nexus 8, on the other hand, will come with a sturdier aluminum zero-gap body, giving it a more premium finish.

The Nexus 0.34 inches thick and weighs 290 grams. The upcoming Nexus 8 is thinner at 0.31 inches, but heavier at 418 grams.

In terms of display, you can select which is the better tablet depending on your preference. The Nexus 8’s display measures 8.9 inches with a resolution of 2,048 x 1,440 pixels. The Nexus 7’s screen is smaller with 7 inches and 1,200 x 1,920 pixels screen resolution.

Although the Nexus 8 has a bigger screen with a higher resolution, the Nexus 7 comes with a better pixel density with 323 ppi, compared to the former’s 241 ppi. This means that the Nexus 8 guarantees a bigger viewing experience, but the Nexus 7 gives slightly sharper images. Still, both tablets give good quality screening.

PERFORMANCE

The Nexus 7 is powered by the 1.5 GHz Quad-Core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro processor with a solid 2 GB RAM. Meanwhile, the Nexus 8 sports the same RAM with something different under the hood, the superior NVIDIA Logan 64-bit processor.

Both Nexus models are available with 16 GB and 32 GB of internal storage capacity. However, the Nexus 8 has an edge because it is said to have a micro SD slot for expandable memory.

The Nexus 7 and the Nexus 8 both run on Android softwares, the first on 4.3 Jelly Bean (upgradable to 4.4.3 KitKat) and the second on 5.0 OS.

BATTERY LIFE & CAMERA

The Nexus’ non-removable Li-Po 3950 mAh battery can live up to 9 hours of multimedia viewing time, according to au.ibtimes.com. However, there are still no details about the Nexus 8’s battery.

What we do know is that the Nexus 8 will have a better rear camera with 8 Megapixels and a front camera of 3 MP, wherein the Nexus 7’s rear camera is only 5 MP (without a flash) and its front is only 1.2 MP.

Rumor has it that HTC could be making Google’s Nexus 8. Regardless of the company that will produce it, we are sure that we can expect exciting things from this upcoming tablet.
