Goonies Sequel 2014: Chris Columbus to Direct ‘Goonies 2′ and ‘Gremlins’ Sequels; Warner Bros. Puts Gremlins and Goonies Sequels on The Fast Track

Goonies Sequel 2014: Goonies 2 and Gremlins 2 are on the way. Warner Brothers announced that they are putting the two remakes on the fast track.

Rumors about a Goonies sequel have been circulating since the first movie came out and now those rumors are looking like they're coming true. It all started when Richard Donner, who directed the original Goonies, said he wants to get Corey Feldman, Josh Brolin, Sean Astin and Jeff Cohen back together as Mikey, Brand, Chunk, Data and Mouth in a sequel to cult 80s movie The Goonies."

Now, The Tracking Board is reporting that Chris Columbus is set to produce a remake of Gremlins and a sequel to Goonies.

The two reboots will see Chris Columbus return to his roots. Published reports say he's on board to produce both the Gremlins remake and the Goonies sequel. Chris Columbus wrote both the Gremlins and Goonies original scripts.

Gremlins already had a sequel, Gremlins 2: The New Batch. The new film will be a reboot rather than a sequel. Warner Bros. working on a Gremlins sequel for years. The studio plans to fast track a version with Seth Grahame-Smith and David Katzenberg set to produce.

The Tracking Board reported that Chris Columbus signed on after negotiations to return to both movies.

The 1985 Goonies film was written by Steven Spielberg and Chris Columbus and was listed as one of the top box office hits of that year. 28 years ago, Goonies introduced young actors Corey Feldman, Josh Brolin, Sean Astin, Jeff Cohen and Martha Plimpton to the big screen. Each of these teenagers went on to long screen careers.
