HTC One Max: Does The Company’s First Phablet Specs Incl. 5.9” Display, Snapdragon Quad-Core Processor, Up To 32 GB Internal Memory, 2 GB RAM, 4 MP Camera; Does It Deliver? ‘Nothing Too Unique,’ Says

HTC One Max: Powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 quad-core processor clocked at 1.7GHz, the HTC One Max sports a 5.9-inch Super LCD3 capacitive touchscreen,16 or 32 GB internal storage (expandable up to 64 GB), 2 GB RAM, 4 MP camera, and an Android 4.4.3 Jelly Bean OS.

After following the trend of large, tablet-sized smartphones, HTC has released its very first "phablet" last year. Now, how does it fare in the market? Analyst Wilson Mao told Forbes the Max is "pretty ordinary in Taiwan." He added, "Six inches is not a particularly remarkable size. It's big, but the sense is I saw this a year ago. There's nothing too unique."

With a dimension of 6.48 x 3.25 x 0.41 inches and a weight of 217 grams, the Max has the same stylish eye-catching aluminium body but on a larger scale. It is more similar with the One Mini than the One because of its plastic frame.

The HTC One Max's 5.9-inch Super LCD3 capacitive touchscreen is probably one of its selling points. It has a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels with a pixel density of 373 ppi, crisp, vibrant, and bright enough to stand out among other phablets. In fact, it can even give Samsung's Galaxy Note 3 a run for its money.

Because of its stellar display quality and monstrous size, the Max is perfect for watching movies even in sunlight. Plus, it has multiple viewing angles that can allow many viewers.

Under the hood, it has a 1.7GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 quad-core processor with 2GB of RAM and an Adreno 320 graphics processing unit, virtually identical with the HTC One. Hence, it is also snappy and responsive. However, like the One, the Max also gets hot when running intensive apps.

The most disappointing part of this smartphone is its camera-a rear-facing 4 MP camera with 2688 x 1520 pixels, autofocus, and an LED flash. Considering its other specs and size, HTC could have done better. Meanwhile, its front camera is 2.1 MP.

So did the HTC One Max deliver?

Here is Know Your Mobile's verdict: "For a first crack at the phablet space this isn't bad at all, the display, processor, storage and battery are all good reasons to consider this phone. The cumbersome size is unnecessary, however, and the camera is a let-down."
