'No Man's Sky' Release Date, Trailer, News, And Updates: Sean Murray Of Hello Games Announces PC Version Will Be Available After Period Of PS4 Exclusivity [VIDEO]

"No Man's Sky" has revealed that it will be gettting a PC release date after a period of PS4 exclusivity following its initial release date.

Sean Murray, the managing director at "No Man's Sky" studio Hello Games, revealed he has plans to ship a PC edition following the PS4 release. The timing for the PC version is unclear, while an Xbox One edition has yet to be mentioned at all.

In an interview with Edge, Murray clarified that, while console simplicity is a guiding principal for the development of No Man's Sky, this is not at the expense of a PC version.

"I actually got in a bit of trouble for saying that we wanted the game to feel really console-y," Murray said.

"We've always had PC in mind but in my head [console-y] means solid framerate and immediate controls. I think a PC game can be console-y and it's intended as a compliment, but I get in trouble for saying it."

"No Man's Sky" captured the imagination of the games community when it was first revealed at VGX in December.

The open-world game offers a procedurally generated universe of theoretically an infinite number of planets and star systems to explore. Many fans believe its trailer stole the show at VGX, and half a year later at E3, Sony claimed the title would be a PS4 "exclusive".

"No Man's Sky" drops players off at the outskirts of the universe with a mission to journey towards its centre. According to the developers, completing this task requires "intelligence, imagination and co-operation".

Players are set free to explore space in search of new worlds. Stars and planets are created procedurally as they are discovered, with unique environments and complete ecosystems to match them.

It's a persistent online world, so once discovered, these locations become available to others. Players will be able to make "significant changes" to locations, changes which will remain in effect for other players who follow.

In the newest issue of Edge - via Gamespot - the team confirmed that "No Man's Sky" is indeed a PS4 exclusive, but only for a while. Hello Games will put the colourful game on PC some time after it launches on PS4.

Hello's Sean Murray explained to Edge that there is a practical purpose to the timed exclusivity: establishing a technological standard for the procedurally generated game by leading with a console with set specs.

"Unlike most games, the actual hardware really affects what we can do in terms of the richness of the worlds and things like that," Murray said. "It isn't just adding a veneer of resolution, or extra antialiasing options. It has a real effect on what we can actually do in the universe."

After the beautiful footage that was revealed at E3 and Hello Games' Sean Murray's quotes about the gameplay; it seems like just about every gamer out there will want to get their hands on the space exploration game.

"I actually got in a bit of trouble for saying that we wanted the game to feel really console-y... We've always had PC in mind but in my head [console-y] means solid framerate and immediate controls. I think a PC game can be console-y and it's intended as a compliment, but I get in trouble for saying it."

Unfortunately, Murray was unable to offer any concrete details about the length of the PS4 exclusive deal. Seeing that we still don't have a firm release date, best guesses putting the release date somewhere in the later half of 2015, its not that surprising.
