Google Nexus 6 Motorola Release Date Tipped In September? Codenamed 'Shamu' Phablet Coming With 5.9" Display?

When Google announced its upcoming product lineup dubbed Android Silver, many feared that it would be the end of the Nexus lineup.

If a new breed of smartphones will showcase how Google intends to make Android work in mobile phones, then in theory there is no need for Nexus devices anymore.

Since the first ever version of Android was launched, Nexus devices have always been paired with recent versions. Thankfully, Google will reportedly not stop in producing the Nexus line.

According to Google's Head of Android and Nexus engineering Dan Burke in an interview with ReadWrite, the Nexus lineup is here to stay.

"When we are working, there are sort of two outputs. We're building a Nexus device and we're building the open source code. There is no way you can build the open source code without the phone or tablet or whatever you are building,"

Now that we can breathe a little, the question is when would it be released and which manufacturer would work on it. In a report by Android Police, it looks like former Google-owned Motorola is working on a device dubbed as 'Shamu', and is tipped to be the upcoming Nexus 6.

While there has not been any Google Nexus 6 Motorola release date details just yet, the report claims that the 'Shamu' project was given to Motorola right after it was bought by Lenovo earlier this year.

In the report, no specifications have been released aside from the 5.9-inch display which puts the alleged Nexus 6 in phablet category. Breathecast even reports that the upcoming Motorola/Nexus phone will pack some kind of fingerprint sensor just like other flagship smartphones today such as the iPhone 5s and Galaxy S5.

While Motorola is rumored to be working on the Nexus 6 smartphone, HTC is said to be working on the Nexus 8/9 tablet, nicknamed 'Volantis'.
